Summary

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief of the Operations, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division, Sheet Metal Branch. The individual is a senior Sheet Metal Mechanic (Roofing) and performs advanced journey level sheet metal operations work in support of the House Office Buildings (HOB).

Duties

Tour of Duty: 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

This position is emergency essential.  Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

The individual selected for this position will:

Sheet metal mechanics (roofing) at this level plan, repair copper, flat seam, standing seam, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), asphalt and membrane roofs as required.

Repairs or replaces cornices and ornamental copper roofing. Traces leaks and removes old roofing to determine source of leaks.  Replaces cracked sections of roofing. Installs roofing felt or other topping material.

Cuts and forms copper components. Measures and fits new sections. Caulks around joints and flashing. Solders joints. Repairs and installs metal roofing accessories such as chimneys, guards, gutters, pipes, valleys and vents.

Selects the work method to be followed for repair, and determining and using a greater variety of roofing materials and accessories.

Evaluates damage and/or wear to sheet metal and metal fabrication components and systems.

Disassembles, repairs, assembles and installs sheet metal and metal fabrication components. Uses various measuring tools to measure size, angles and patterns for repair, replacement and/or modification.

Plans and lays out templates for construction and repair of components such as copper roof components, metal fabrications and steel components. Uses riveting, soldering, and mechanical fasteners.
