Summary

The Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Building, Assistant Superintendent Tenant Services Division, Upholstery Branch is seeks an independent, reliable Floor Covering Installer to repair and install carpet, carpet tile, drapery, window treatments and Venetian blinds to assist with the less complex upholsterer duties.

Duties

Tour of duty for this position is: Monday – Friday 5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. And occasional overtime required.

Floor Covering Installation Work:

Measures room areas for the installation of carpets and other floor coverings. Cuts carpet pads and carpets to fit designated floor areas with simple shapes and surfaces.

Installs carpets and rugs. Uses a rug kicker or power stretcher to straighten and/or stretch the carpet to insure proper fit.

Performs carpet work in the installation and repair of a variety of broadloom carpets, pads and carpet tiles, measures rooms, halls, etc.; ensures proper color and dye lot numbers.

Measures and cuts to fit spaces and make patters and designs; lays out and lines up; ties in among and between rooms/halls.

Stretches carpets with kicker; seams with seaming iron; binds with binding machines.

Key responsibilities involve the insertion of several border patterns in massive Senate meeting rooms.

Installs Drapery, Curtains, Window Treatments and Venetian Blinds:

Performs and inserts draperies, window blinds and window covering installation, treatments and cleaning duties.

Operates a window blind cleaning power washer machine to clean all window blinds, diffusers and other coverings.

Accurately cuts to fit replacement strings and guides in draperies, window blinds and other window coverings.

Upholsterer Tasks:

Performs the less complex upholstery tasks involving stripping and tacking chair coverings and two seat divans under supervision.

Rebuilds seats and backs by using old cover or established pattern as a guide.

Removes old covering and padding, checks and repairs seat frame; secures and ties seat springs; cuts and sews new covering and adds padding to seat, adjusting amount to insure proper fit of covering.
