Diesel Mechanic Position III

Panhandle Dumpsters has an immediate opening for a Full Tim Diesel Mechanic III, 1st or 2nd shift, to work out of our shop in Martinsburg WV. ***Pay is based on experience.

Main Responsibilities:

· Making sure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers

· Looking for a mechanic with at least 3 to 5 years of diesel experience, hydraulic systems, Experience with welding, cutting with a torch, needed. Own your own tools and Electrical is a plus!

· Using Panhandle Dumpsters’ tools and technologies to log, research and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics

· This position will be responsible for preventative maintenance inspections and repairs, air and hydraulic brake repairs, warranty procedures, steering & suspension, electrical diagnostics, etc. all on medium and heavy-duty trucks, including but not limited to activities such as replacing or rotating tires—and completing vehicle component lubrication and replacement, some electrical system repairs, and cooling system maintenance on gas and diesel engine vehicles.

· Complete all required reports and paperwork accurately and on time.

· Partnering with your manager to learn new skills using Panhandle Dumpsters’ technician training and hands-on coaching

· Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner at ALL times; wear all required safety equipment; follow all safety guidelines; perform all required safety inspections; notify the Shop Manager immediately of any potential or current safety problems.

· Follow all environmental regulations; dispose of chemicals, trash, etc. in designated areas; recycle when required; notify the Shop Manager immediately of any potential or current environmental problems.

· Keep the shop area and all tools, shop vehicles, and equipment neat, clean, and in good repair; clean work area at the end of every work shift; maintain security of all company equipment and tools at all times and notify the Shop Manager of any problems.

· Perform any miscellaneous duties requested by the Shop Manager which may include, but is not limited to, cleaning up around the plant, picking up equipment or supplies, and filling in for an absent employee.

· Working on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Required Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred

· Basic mechanical aptitude and 3-5 years of automotive and diesel repair experience.

· Must own your own tools

· Airbrake experience, at least 1 to 2 years

· Hydraulic work experience, at least 1 to 2 years

· Preventive Maintenance (PM) work, at least 1 to 2 years

· Valid driver’s license

· The ability to solve problems and comfort using tools

· Excellent customer service skills and communication skills

· The ability to work well as part of a team and outside

· Basic computer skills

· Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job

· Willingness to work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Panhandle Dumpsters employment application, submit to a background screening (to include criminal checks, past employment, and education), the ability to pass a drug screen and physical as required by the Department of Transportation, and potential travel within a near geography for training are required

· This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation or designated as safety sensitive by the company, and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required. Associates must have the ability to accept responsibility for their own safety, as well as the safety of others.

· The associate will be required to remember and understand certain instructions, guidelines, or other information. The associate must be able to see and verbally communicate.

· While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit. The associate is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms. The associate must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs/23kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100lbs/45kg.

Preferred Experience:

· Diagnostic work – Looking for someone with experience doing diagnostic work on trucks, preferably 1 to 2 years of experience.

· Electrical – Looking for someone with experience doing electrical work on trucks, preferably 1 to 2 years of experience.

· Transmission – Preferred someone with experience doing work on Transmissions or familiarity with them.

· Diesel Certifications – not required but preferred.

· DOT Medical Card – not required but preferred to test driver our under CDL trucks after they’ve been repaired, on the road.

· Forklift – not required but preferred.
